History Uncovered on Instagram: "If you grew up in the 90s, you might remember Creepy Crawlers as a relatively safe way to make rubbery bugs. But the original 1964 version, known as the Mattel Thingmaker, was a household hazard.⁠ ⁠ The set functioned like a high-heat oven, requiring children to pour "Plasti-Goop" into metal molds. These molds reached temperatures of 350°F, frequently causing burns. To make matters worse, the chemicals in the goop were later discovered to be toxic when inhaled.⁠
