Back in the old days — all the way back to mid-May — the Rays were 18-22. They were averaging a paltry 3.8 runs per game and were in fourth place in the American League East. That team is a distant memory.

The two bombs came courtesy of Lowe and Co. Josh Lowe got the offense going early with a leadoff solo shot over the short porch in right field. Brandon Lowe hit a towering two-run homer to center field to extend the Rays lead to 5-1.

Ryan Pepiot had a season-high 11 strikeouts, Jake Mangum went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-1.

Athlon Sports. Forget all that talk about the struggling Tampa Bay Rays. They are not even close to struggling right now, winning 18 of their last 24 games. Tampa Bay is coming off an impressive three-game sweep of the New York Mets at Citi Field.

The White Sox turned the page on Andrew Vaughn last week by trading him to the Brewers for right-hander Aaron Civale. A former top prospect, Vaughn has regressed in recent years and was hitting .189 with a .531 OPS through 48 games this season. While Vaughn’s handling was likely botched in the first place, both sides are probably better off apart.

The Rays beat the Orioles 7-1 on Monday night with their American League-leading 36th quality start of the season.
