The 1905 Wright Flyer III has been named Ohio's official state aircraft. Here's why it's important to the Buckeye State, and aviation at large.
Senate Bill 24, naming the 1905 Wright Flyer III by Orville and Wilbur Wright of Dayton as Ohio's state aircraft, was signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine in April and will go into effect on July 2.
That crash led to a major redesign, and on Oct. 5, 1905, Wilbur flew 24 miles in 39 minutes. In 1908, it was modified to carry two people, a pilot and a passenger.
