Formula 1 will have a full-time Brazilian driver for the first time since 2017 after Sauber announced F2 leader Gabriel Bortoleto will join the team.

Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto has been signed to drive for the Audi-owned Sauber team next year. The 20-year-old, who is leading this year’s Formula 2 championship, will partner German veteran Nico Hulkenberg.

Gabriel “Bortoleto has been added to the group chat”, Sauber wrote on X as they confirmed the former McLaren junior driver as Nico Hulkenberg’s 2025 team-mate. Less than an hour after announcing both Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu would not continue with the team in F1 2025,
