The Wolf Moon will arrive on Jan. 13, 2025, at 05:27 p.m. ET, according to NASA. The moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Sunday evening into Wednesday morning, the agency said.

According to NASA, citing the Farmers' Almanac, the name for this moon is derived from packs of wolves heard howling in the heart of winter. This full moon also coincides with the Hindu holiday Shakambhari Purnima and the Buddhist day Duruthu Poya. In the Indian states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, this moon marks the Thiruvathira festival.
