Marshall Football Hit With Six-Figure Fine for Backing Out of Bowl Game
Marshall football went 10–3 during the 2024 football season, finishing the season with seven consecutive wins culminating in a 31–3 win over Louisiana in the Sun Belt championship. The Thundering Herd were set to celebrate that successful season with a trip to the Independence Bowl to take on Army.

Sun Belt fines Marshall $100,000 for not playing in Independence Bowl
The Sun Belt has fined Marshall for the school’s decision to opt out of the Independence Bowl. Marshall said it couldn’t play in the Dec. 28 game against Army due to a lack of players. The Thundering Herd won the Sun Belt title game over Louisiana and was set to play the Black Knights in one of the better matchups of bowl season.
Former South Alabama running back staying in Sun Belt Conference
Former South Alabama running back Braylon McReynolds is transferring to Louisiana-Monroe, he announced Monday. McReynolds, a Mobile native who starred at McGill-Toolen Catholic School, will be reunited with his high school coach in Monroe. Earnest Hill is entering his second season as Warhawks’ defensive coordinator.
