Rescue workers are sifting through smoldering debris and thick mud in search of survivors a day after a volcano on Indonesia’s island of Flores erupted, killing at least nine people with its searing lava and ash.

Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency said Monday that at least 10 people have died as a series of volcanic eruptions widens on the remote island of Flores.

Authorities in Indonesia have evacuated nearly 2,500 people from areas affected by the ongoing eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki on Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara province, local media reported Wednesday.
