The northern lights could once again grace US skies over the coming days. A minor geomagnetic storm is projected to impact Earth on Saturday and Sunday following the effects of a recent coronal mass ejection: plasma and magnetic field that is expelled from the sun.

The northern lights may be visible in parts of the United States after sundown on New Year’s Eve, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The NOAA has issued predictions that we could see New Year's auroras filling the sky in some northern U.S. states.

Another round of aurora borealis is expected to color the night sky on New Year's Eve this year, according to NOAA's latest forecast

That same activity can lead to aurorae, however, such as the northern and southern lights. This time around that meant that the northern lights could be seen at relatively low latitudes, including as far south as the midwest.

There's a chance solar storms may bring northern lights to several northern U.S states just in time for the new year.
