Meta Platforms and most other U.S. stocks are rising Thursday following a rush of profit reports from some of the country’s most influential companies, but drops for Nvidia and Microsoft are keeping the market in check.

U.S. stocks slipped after the Federal Reserve held its main interest rate steady and broke a run of cuts that began in September

U.S. stocks rose Tuesday after more companies said they made bigger profits at the end of last year than analysts expected and as Treasury yields eased. The S&P 500 climbed 0.9%, while many markets around the world took only tentative steps following Donald Trump’s return to the White House on Monday.

U.S. equity indexes dipped and Treasury yields pushed higher on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady and gave little insight into when further reductions in borrowing costs may take place.

As was widely expected, the U.S. Federal Reserve held interest rates at current levels following the conclusion of its latest policy meeting.

Tesla, IBM and Meta Platforms helped lead most U.S. stocks higher on Thursday following a rush of profit reports from some of the country’s most influential companies. The S&P 500 rose 0.5%, as four out of every five stocks in the index climbed.
