Congress is less than a month away from another potential government shutdown, and pressure is mounting on Democratic leaders to have another showdown with President Trump over health care costs

The Capitol is quiet this week, with Congress out of town for its end-of-year recess, but lawmakers are gearing up for what promises to be a hectic few weeks of work when the Senate returns on Monday and the House a day later.

The 119th Congress will pick up where it left off at the end of 2025, addressing the issue of health care costs and trying to avoid another government shutdown.
