Sara was the 18th named storm of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which officially runs from June 1 until Nov. 30, with activity typically peaking between mid-August and mid-October.

There have been 18 named storms since 2000 that formed outside the official hurricane season, either before June or after November. One of them, Hurricane Alex, spun up on Jan. 12, 2016.
