The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) announced its readiness to manage the clearance and settlement of options on spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

The Options Clearing Corporation issued a Nov. 18 notice saying it was preparing for the “clearance, settlement, and risk management” of spot Bitcoin ETFs.

BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF options will start trading tomorrow with significant market implications after regulatory approvals.

A major regulatory milestone for Bitcoin ETF options was reached on November 16 when the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that it would no longer oversee the clearing process for these options.

According to an ETF analyst, spot Bitcoin ETF options have passed the "second hurdle" after the CFTC "cleared the way" for the products.

The whole idea behind Spot Bitcoin ETF Options is to lend exposure to BTC, without having to hold the underlying asset. The Options will also pave the way for more speculation in the market. A potential outcome could be more volatility and amplified price swings.

Nasdaq Inc. is planning to list options on BlackRock Inc.’s Bitcoin exchange-traded fund, possibly as soon as Tuesday, allowing investors to use derivatives to bet on or against the world’s largest digital asset.
