Kipruto, an Olympic bronze medalist, narrowly beat fellow Kenyan Alexander Mutiso in the Pro Men's race, as both men finished with a time of 2:08:09.

It took a photo finish to determine the men's winner of the 2025 New York City Marathon. Despite posting the same finishing time, Kenyan Benson Kipruto narrowly beat out country-mate Alexander Mutiso Munyao to win the event. Both runners finished with a time of 2:08:09, with Kipruto finishing .16 seconds before Munyao.

A 66-year-old Baltimore woman who had lost her sight and was declared legally blind completed the TCS New York City Marathon​ on Sunday.

Benson Kipruto (in the closest men’s elite finish in race history) and Hellen Obiri led Kenyan podium sweeps of the New York City Marathon. Kipruto edged countryman Alexander Mutiso by an unofficial 16 hundredths of a second after 26.2 miles on the roads.
