Israel’s intense bombardment of the Gaza Strip this week marked the most serious challenge yet for a fragile, U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
The Red Cross said its staff in Gaza "were not able to intervene directly on-site" as alleged Hamas members were seen burying and then uncovering the remains of a deceased hostage.
Many Palestinians returning to what is left of their homes face the risk of unexploded bombs hidden under rubble, which aid groups say may take decades to clear.
