A dozen felony charges were filed Monday against a Brainerd man accused of a violent crime spree Friday that set off a statewide Amber Alert after he allegedly killed a man, burned a house down and kidnapped at gunpoint a pregnant woman and her four children, who were safely recovered.

A Brainerd man is facing a dozen felony charges, including murder, sexual assault, arson and kidnapping, in connection with a horrifying incident that triggered a statewide Amber Alert early Friday.

Chad Aanerud, 35, faces two counts of second-degree murder, one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, four counts of kidnapping, two counts of second-degree assault, one count of first-degree arson and one count of theft.

BRAINERD, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) — A Brainerd man faces a list of charges, including murder, kidnapping and arson, after a crime spree that prompted an AMBER Alert last week.

BRAINERD, Minn. — Authorities say a man is in custody after allegedly abducting a pregnant woman and her four children, which prompted an AMBER Alert near Brainerd Friday morning. The victims were unharmed. The mother of the pregnant victim said she was up in Duluth with her husband getting medical treatment, when she learned the news.

Chad Aanerud, 35, was charged Monday in Crow Wing County District Court with 12 criminal counts, including second-degree murder, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, arson and assault with a dangerous weapon.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office reported it believed the shooting death and the apparent abduction are related incidents.

Aanerud faces over a dozen charges, including two counts of second-degree murder, one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, five counts of kidnapping, two counts of second-degree assault, one count of first-degree arson and one count of theft.
