A winter weather advisory for more than a dozen Iowa counties on Friday, Jan. 16, brings the possibility of snow squalls. What you should know.

The forecast comes as winter storm warnings, snow squall warnings and weather advisories Wednesday morning stretched from Kenosha County in Wisconsin to LaPorte County in Indiana, with dangerous road conditions and near-whiteout travel as the snow blew across the Chicago area.

“Snow squalls pose serious threats to personal safety and property and produce costly transportation disruptions due to multi-vehicle pileups,” the NWS warns. “There is no safe place on a highway when snow squalls are approaching.”

Snow squalls could sweep across New Jersey between 1 and 7 p.m. on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Gusty winds and incoming snow are forecast to combine and create hazardous driving conditions across much of the state on Friday.
