Despite a federal ruling, state law protects net neutrality in California. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Thursday struck down the Federal Communications Commission’s net neutrality rules that prevented internet service providers from blocking content or charging more to deliver it, USA Today reported.

The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals blasted the FCC's attempts to regulate broadband internet, but state laws in California and New York remain intact.

The court's ruling cites the US Supreme Court's Loper Bright decision this past June, which overturned a 1984 precedent that gave deference to federal agencies to interpret laws in areas they oversee. The ruling doesn't affect state laws on net neutrality in California, Colorado and Washington, The New York Times noted.
