It’s not going to be the injuries that derail the Islanders season. Even with nearly a third of their opening-night lineup on the shelf, the issue for the Islanders is the same it’s been for over a year: They are leaving points on the table by blowing third-period leads and winnable games.

The Islanders took a 2-1 lead on Brock Nelson’s shorthanded rush at 4:49 of the third period as the puck slowly rolled past a prone Joey Daccord (22 saves). Daccord preserved the Kraken’s win by denying a second shorthanded rush by Nelson at 18:10 of the third period.

Jamie Oleksiak scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:13 left, and the Seattle Kraken beat the New York Islanders 3-2 on Saturday for their fourth straight win.

File this one under wins the Islanders let slip through their fingers. The Islanders, however, will file it as a win taken from their grasp forcefully, with coach Patrick Roy saying his team “got robbed” after a failed challenge for goaltender interference handed the Kraken a game-winning goal with just over three minutes left in Saturday’s match.
