Another oceanfront home along North Carolina’s Outer Banks has collapsed. According to Cape Hatteras National Seashore, an occupied house located at 23241 Surf Side Drive in Rodanthe collapsed in the overnight hours between Thursday and Friday.
Ocean devours another house on shriveling Outer Banks beach
The Atlantic Ocean swallowed another unoccupied beach house Friday on North Carolina’s Cape Hatteras National Seashore. It is the 11th house to collapse on the 70-mile-long seashore over the past four years and the sixth house that has collapsed since May in Rodanthe, an unincorporated development on Hatteras Island.

Another Outer Banks house collapses, 7th in 2024
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore said the unoccupied house collapsed at 23241 Surf Side Drive in Rodanthe, North Carolina. This is the seventh house to fall this year and the 11th house in the last four years. The last house fell on Sept. 24 and it was the third within a week. The other homes fell in March, May and August.
