The mics of JD Vance and Tim Walz will remain live throughout Tuesday's vice presidential debate in a break from the earlier presidential debate.

The VP debate next Tuesday between Sen. JD Vance and Gov. Tim Walz will generate some passing buzz but likely won't directly influence the race, experts agree.

Walz, meanwhile, has held mock debates, sources told ABC News, with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, in his personal capacity, acting as a Vance stand-in, and held policy sessions with his own longtime aides, Biden White House alumni and members of the Harris-Walz campaign team.
