Red Bull’s Max Verstappen raced to his third victory in four races Sunday at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, while McLaren’s Lando Norris took a huge chunk out of teammate Oscar Piastri’s championship lead by finishing second.

Lando Norris overtook Oscar Piastri in the F1 standings with a dominant victory at the Mexican Grand Prix. The young Brit now leads the Drivers' Championship battle by a single point with just four races remaining.

Max Verstappen won the Austin Sprint race on Saturday, finishing ahead of George Russell and Carlos Sainz on podium. Ferrari duo Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc rounded out the Top 5. McLaren stars Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri provided the drama during the Sprint with their collision on Turn 1, forcing them both to retire from the race.

Now, the reasons drivers choose certain numbers vary. Verstappen’s race number is actually 33, but he races under the number 1 because that’s reserved for the reigning world champion. The title winner gets to choose whether to use 1 or stick with their race number.

Jolyon Palmer says Charles Leclerc should have been penalized for overtaking Lewis Hamilton off the track during the Mexico GP.

Norris now leads the way from team-mate Piastri by a solitary point with four rounds of the season remaining, while Verstappen is 36 points back from the Brit in P1. The four-time world champion did reduce the arrears by four points in Mexico, but that rate of progression will not be enough to topple the McLaren duo.

A virtual safety car at the end of the Mexican Grand Prix prompted a gleeful response from Charles Leclerc, who was under pressure from F1 champion Max Verstappen. Leclerc was involved in the chaotic start to the Mexican GP, where he went four abreast into Turn 1 with Verstappen, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton for the lead.
