Shanice was put off by mammograms after doctors wrongly thought they had found cancer in her breasts. For eight years, she decided against having the recommended annual screening. But when the "I Love Your Smile" singer finally returned to the doctor, she received an actual cancer diagnosis.

March 2023 brought an undeniable reality when Shanice discovered a concerning lump, forcing her to confront her long-held fears. The subsequent screening revealed what doctors initially suspected was ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

R&B singer Shanice is opening up about her recent breast cancer battle and also encouraging routine mammograms, which she says she skipped for eight years. The 51-year-old singer known for 90’s bops “I Love Your Smile” and “When I Close My Eyes” revealed that doctors discovered a tumor in her breast during a double mastectomy surgery in May.

In a recent appearance on the show Good Morning America, singer Shanice shared her journey of breast cancer diagnosis and her journey so far. Shanice shared about her double mastectomy on Instagram in September when she was “strong enough to talk about it.
