With the expiration of a carriage deal between Disney and YouTube TV a week away, the company has started to put messaging on its airwaves, including ESPN, about the potential end of the deal, which would have major implications for around 10 million YouTube TV subscribers.
Under the multi-million dollar deal, the NFL will sell NFL Network and other NFL media assets to Disney in exchange for a 10% equity stake in ESPN. While the deal has the sign-off of the NFL’s owners, NFL EVP of media distribution Hans Schroeder told reporters on Wednesday the deal has yet complete the necessary regulatory processes.
