‘One Piece’ Anime Is Switching to a Seasonal Format After 25 Years
After more than two decades of weekly episodes, One Piece is getting a big change. Toei Animation has confirmed that the long-running anime will switch to a seasonal format starting in 2026. The news was shared through the official One Piece YouTube channel and later confirmed in an English press release.
One Piece is the biggest manga series in the world. The sales don’t lie — One Piece has currently over 600 million volumes in circulation, which is quite an impressive number. But, despite all of One Piece’s success, it, too, is facing some struggles. Beyond manga breaks, fans have a bigger issue to worry about.

The One Piece franchise is set for a major year in 2026, with Netflix confirming that the live-action series will return on 10 March 2026. Season 2, titled Into the Grand Line, will follow the Straw Hat Pirates as they embark on their next great adventure.
This new release schedule will follow a three-month production hiatus spanning January through March 2026. The One Piece anime will return in April to kick off the Elbaph arc, now divided into two cours, "totaling up to 26 new episodes in 2026 and thereafter."
