The Trump administration has fired the government watchdog at USAID after it warned it no longer had the resources to oversee the gutted agency, officials said Tuesday.

Paul Martin is one of around 20 inspectors general the administration has pushed out despite objections from lawmakers who say the firing methods violate statutes.

The firing comes after the watchdog warned that the dismantling of USAID severely hindered oversight of $8.2 billion in aid.
