Coast Guard Ice rescue preparations

Strong winds create dangerous conditions, prompting rescue mission by U.S. Coast Guard and local fire department.

The U.S. Coast Guard was among several agencies that rescued four people from an ice floe in Lake Erie. Air Station Detroit and Station Marblehead both received a report from the Catawba Island State Park Police at 4:34 p.m. on Tuesday and launched rescue crews.

The agency recently freed a 663-foot ship trapped in Lake Erie near Buffalo, New York.
