The Carolina Hurricanes made one of the biggest trades of the season in January. They sent Martin Necas and Jack Drury to the Colorado Avalanche for Mikko Rantanen. A previous 50-goal scorer, they hoped to extend Rantanen for eight years.

The Carolina Hurricanes were at the center of the trade deadline for a lot of the wrong reasons. The drama surrounding Mikko Rantanen generated plenty of headlines, but the team is starting to peak in spite of that turbulence.

Rantanen seems to be fitting in with his new team in Dallas, tallying three points in his first two games. "Dallas was a better fit on the ice," Rantanen said. "Better for me in the style of play, similar to Colorado."
