A major power cut across southern France left around 160,000 homes without electricity on Saturday and impacted the town of Cannes, which is currently hosting its annual international film festival.

French authorities believe arson may have played a role in a major power outage that threatened to jeopardize the Cannes Film Festival’s closing celebrations.

An arson attack and damage to a transmission tower cut off power in the area, the authorities said. The festival’s closing ceremony on Saturday is scheduled to proceed normally.
