The commission has outlined nine recommendations for revising the San Diego Police Department's vehicle pursuit policy to improve public and officer safety.

Every time a police agency decides to pursue a suspect, officers have to report the chase and relevant details to the California Highway Patrol, including maximum speeds, whether there was a crash, etc.

The San Diego Police Department on Friday is responding to recommendations made by the Commission on Police Practices on their pursuit policies.

Last year, the Commission on Police Practices recommended that the San Diego Police Department change its policies to limit when pursuits could be initiated.
