Verizon has a recommendation for people still having trouble getting service on their mobile phones after a massive outage.

Lots of Verizon users reported their phones were stuck in SOS mode. There might not be a real fix until service is restored but there are some steps you can take to try to get your phone in working order.

More than half of the people reporting issues on DownDetector.com said there are problems with their mobile phones. One-third are without a signal, and 14% are experiencing a total blackout. The outage map shows concentrated reports of problems in New York, Atlanta, Central Florida, and many other locations, including Metro Detroit.

Thousands of Verizon customers complained of a widespread outage on September 30. So, what caused the random wireless issue?

Verizon services are beginning to be restored after reportedly down across the country on Monday, Sept. 30, according to the wireless carrier. On its official X account, Verizon said it was working around the clock to fix the issue.

Verizon has confirmed that its cell service is beginning to come back online following a massive outage affecting some of its mobile phone customers.

Affected customers say their phones are in SOS mode. It comes as the carrier is also battling outages in the Southeast due to Hurricane Helene.

Verizon is adding satellite texting as soon as this fall, but not for all devices Phones enter SOS mode when not connected to their carrier network, either because they are in an area with poor coverage or because of a technical problem.
