A new full-size off-road luxury electric SUV is poised to shake up the market. Mercedes-AMG just previewed its first

To date, Mercedes-AMG has built five standalone cars. That list is already set to expand to six when the sub-brand's new electric sedan debuts — but as it turns out, the Mercedes performance group won't stop there.

AMG has produced a sportier version of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, but on Thursday it announced a larger standalone model based on its own AMG.EA dedicated EV platform. A teaser sketch released as part of the announcement shows a fairly sleek silhouette by big SUV standards, with a steeply raked rear roof pillar and low roof line.

Now, Mercedes-AMG has announced that it is entering the market with a new ‘High-Performance SUV’ officially in the works. Details of the project are thin on the ground and the only picture we’ve got to go off is the red silhouette you see here.

The new model will go up against the massive Lotus Eletre and future Porsche full-size EV SUVs when it arrives in a few years.

The electric AMG SUV will use the same AMG.EA platform as AMG's upcoming electric sedan, with prototypes undergoing initial testing this winter.
