Former VP Kamala Harris addresses local leaders on MLK’s birthday during Memphis leg of book tour
Former Vice President Kamala Harris stopped in Memphis on Thursday as part of her national book tour for her #1 New York Times Bestseller, “107 Days.”
Harris was in Memphis for a stop on her book tour. She toured the museum on what would have been Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 97th birthday.
The National Civil Rights Museum will host King Day from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on January 19. King Day will include live performances, food trucks, arts and crafts, and the King Day of Service, featuring a blood drive with Vitalant and food drives with the Mid-South Food Bank.
The year 2026 also marks the 35th anniversary of the National Civil Rights Museum, founded in 1991 at the historic Lorraine Motel. Legacy Year will feature public programs, exhibitions, oral history projects, and community collaborations that highlight the ongoing impact of the civil rights movement and inspire today's changemakers.
