It’s not going to be the injuries that derail the Islanders season. Even with nearly a third of their opening-night lineup on the shelf, the issue for the Islanders is the same it’s been for over a year: They are leaving points on the table by blowing third-period leads and winnable games.

The Islanders took a 2-1 lead on Brock Nelson’s shorthanded rush at 4:49 of the third period as the puck slowly rolled past a prone Joey Daccord (22 saves). Daccord preserved the Kraken’s win by denying a second shorthanded rush by Nelson at 18:10 of the third period.

Jamie Oleksiak scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:13 left, and the Seattle Kraken beat the New York Islanders 3-2 on Saturday for their fourth straight win.

File this one under wins the Islanders let slip through their fingers. After playing their best game of the season in Vancouver on Thursday, the Islanders came out on Saturday afternoon looking confident and playing crisp hockey.
