Alvarez was placed on Houston's official 26-man roster for the AL wild card series against the Detroit Tigers, a three-game series with all contests played at Minute Maid Park. Houston's lefty masher was subsequently penciled in as the designated hitter in Espada's lineup card, hitting second between Jose Altuve and Kyle Tucker.
