Writing a big check to a private university in California will no longer double as a possible ticket for college admission starting next year.

A bill spurred by the 2022 death of Katie Meyer, who died by suicide when she was a soccer goalie at Stanford, has become state law in California.

Stanford held a women's soccer game dedicated to mental health and did not honor Katie Meyer, the former Stanford goalie who died by suicide in 2022.

A new California state law, brought on by the death of Katie Meyer and her family’s Katie’s Save initiative, will provide students with an advisor of their choosing during disciplinary proceedings at California colleges and universities.
