Michigan could see snow, ice, thunderstorms and tornadoes, just days after an ice storm knocked out power to thousands of people in the state.
While a new storm system complicated recovery efforts, progress is being made across the region in restoring power.
This is easily the worst ice storm in modern times — in the last 50 years — and you have to go back all the way to 1922 to find something even remotely close,” said Harold Dippman, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Gaylord.
Three people were killed in a crash near Climax, in Kalamazoo County, while roughly 168,000 customers are without power in Michigan.
Severe weather is possible throughout southeast Michigan Sunday evening. Due to the heightened risk the NEXT Weather Team will be at our Alert Day levels, providing additional coverage on our livestream through the evening. A line of storms should form this afternoon to our southwest and race to the northeast at approximately 50 mph.
