Crews responded to a report of an overturned vessel on the shores of Torrey Pines State Beach off the coast of Del Mar shortly after 6:30 a.m. local time, officials told KABC-TV.

At least three people have been confirmed dead while nine others remain missing after a small boat capsized off the coast of San Diego early Monday.

The authorities said 17 life jackets were found but it was unknown how many people were aboard. Search and rescue efforts were suspended Monday morning.
