PITTSBURGH (AP) — Claude Giroux scored with just over five minutes remaining in the third period and the Ottawa Senators beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Monday night. Giroux skated in on goal, was tripped by Erik Karlsson and went hard into the post.
The temperatures may be frigid outside, but the Pittsburgh Penguins are keeping things hot on the rink. Winners of six straight and on a 7-0-2 roll in their past nine games, the Penguins will look to keep the good times rolling when they host the Ottawa Senators on Monday.
In his first game since Dec. 28, Linus Ullmark backstopped the Senators to a 4-1 win vs. the Devils, earning cheers and teammate embraces.
The Ottawa Senators didn’t steal this one — they owned it. A 5–2 win over the Colorado Avalanche at Canadian Tire Centre felt calm, deliberate, and quietly authoritative.
Brady Tkachuk had a goal and two assists, and the Ottawa Senators defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-1 at Canadian Tire Centre Saturday night. Tim Stutzle had a goal and an assist, and Dylan Cozens scored his 100th career NHL goal for the Senators (26-21-7),
Ullmark was named first star in his return to the crease after stepping away from the team on personal leave for mental health reasons.
The Ottawa Senators issued a scathing statement to criticize people spreading rumors about goalie Linus Ullmark's leave of absence.
Jake Sanderson, Tkachuk's teammate with the Senators and the United States, agrees. The defenseman scored one goal in two games at 4 Nations and is eager to measure himself against a deeper talent pool spread across more countries at the Olympics. He seems primed with 44 points (10 goals, 34 assists) in 54 games for the Senators this season.
The Ottawa Senators and Calgary Flames are believed to have had trade discussions about MacKenzie Weeger. Bobby McMann and Jeff Skinner, meanwhile, could be trade candidates.
Stephen Halliday had two goals and an assist, Dylan Cozens also scored twice and the Ottawa Senators routed the road-weary Vegas Golden Knights 7-1 on Sunday night.
