The N.C. Department of Transportation held a news conference Tuesday morning to discuss preparation for expected winter weather in the area.

State transportation officials are prepared for the year’s second large winter storm and are urging people to get ready now and to stay off the roads once the storm begins unless absolutely necessary.

DOT Engineer Blake Jacobs says his crews are in charge of creating a brine, which is a solution of salt and water and spraying it across roads in our region. “We call it our anti-icing process.,” Jacobs explained. Crews have sprayed over 30,000 gallons onto the roads these past few days to stop snow from sticking.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is preparing for any winter weather that comes into the state.
