FOX Weather Correspondent Robert Ray is in the heart of a devastated Montego Bay, Jamaica showing residents struggling to cope with their homes and neighborhoods in ruins after Hurricane Melissa.

A San Antonio woman vacationing in Montego Bay found herself and her family trapped by Hurricane Melissa, which struck the area on Tuesday.

CBS News Miami has been in touch with families living through the aftermath, including Marvin Edwards, who rode out the hurricane in Montego Bay.

Hurricane Melissa has caused devastating flooding in Haiti, leading to at least 20 deaths on the island. Many homes have been washed away in the floodwaters and people have been clearing debris with their bare hands, Pascal Bimenyimana from the World Relief NGO says.

Tuesday, 4 p.m. Melissa was downgraded to a Category 4 hurricane , the National Hurricane Center said, with maximum wind speeds of 150 mph. The center of the storm was reported as just 10 miles south of Montego Bay, one of Jamaica’s largest cities.
