TAMU Aggies football coach Mike Elko achieved the first 8-0 season in year two at College Station following a 49-25 win over the LSU Tigers in Death Valley under the lights. As CBS Sports’ David Cobb believes the win made the Aggies a legitimate title contender.

Last week against the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Aggies’ defense struggled to contain a dynamic Arkansas offense. Ahead of Texas A&M’s game against LSU, coach Mike Elko addressed the defensive issues. On Wednesday, Elko hosted his weekly radio show where he addressed the upcoming matchup.

Mike Elko could have to decide on his college football coaching future soon if Texas A&M beats LSU on Saturday night.

We have bigger aspirations for where we can go than anybody else,” Mike Elko said. “As we win, I think other people will catch up.”

The Texas A&M Aggies are no strangers to the firing of prominent head coaches, after firing Jimbo Fisher in 2023. That included paying the largest contract payout in college football history to secure a restart in college football and opting for Mike Elko to take over the reins.

As a result, the Aggies remain No. 3 in the US LBM coaches poll and the AP Top 25 poll following the 49-25 win over the Tigers. A&M is 8-0 for the first time since 1992 and spent multiple weeks ranked in the top three for the first time since 1995,
