The Battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy renews on Saturday night as the No. 25 Michigan Wolverines (5-2) visit the Michigan State Spartans (3-4) at Spartan Stadium with a 3-1 Big Ten Conference record as part of a seven-team logjam tied for third place.

Despite a five-game losing streak and no Big Ten wins, Michigan State football can still win three of its final four games to salvage a bowl berth.

The Michigan Wolverines have mostly been seen as a middle-of-the-road team since losing the Oklahoma on the road earlier in the season, a belief reinforced with their loss to USC two weeks ago in Los Angeles.

Michigan continues to tick higher in the college football rankings with four games to go. After beating Michigan State on Saturday, the 6-2 Wolverines rose to No. 21 in the Associated Press Top 25 and US LBM coaches’ poll unveiled Sunday.
