LyondellBasell, which recently shuttered its Houston refinery, will lay off 86 percent of those facility workers—or 345 workers—on April 17, according to a filing with the Texas Workforce Commission.

The news comes a little more than a month after the Houston-based international chemical company announced that it would be closing the refinery.

Layoffs at Lyondell Basell Industries' shuttered Houston refinery will begin in mid-April, the company stated in a letter sent to the United Steelworkers union (USW) on Monday.

The closure of the plant, which dates to 1918, reflects the struggles of a sector that’s declining along with demand for its central product.

Reports say the company will be laying off about 85% of its workforce at the Houston refinery. His wife, Betsy Arakawa, was also found dead in their New Mexico home. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy left the White House without signing a critical minerals deal with the U.
