Heavy rain caused flash flooding and road closures around the Lehigh Valley on Monday evening as storms made their way through. More rain is expected this week.

U. SAUCON TWP., Pa. - Parts of Lehigh County are getting slammed with heavy rain, and that has led to flooded roads in spots. Shawnna sent us a photo of a car stuck in some deep water at Route 309 in Upper Saucon Township. There have been reports of water rescues in Upper Saucon and Lower Milford townships.

Flash flooding is possible from thunderstorms with potential rainfall rates of 3-5 inches within hours, particularly threatening urban areas and areas near streams.

Parts of the Lehigh Valley saw torrential downpours Monday night, which led to flooding. Upper Saucon Township, Pennsylvania, was hit particularly hard. Mary Klingman has lived in Center Valley, a community within the township, for 25 years, and said she has never seen flooding to this degree.

The week is shaping up to be warm and stormy, with a chance of thunderstorms in the forecast every day and the possibility of heavy downpours at times. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Monday afternoon through Monday evening because of the chance of flash flooding from excessive rain.

On Tuesday at 12:48 a.m. an updated flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 4:45 a.m. for Lehigh and Montgomery counties.
