OKLAHOMA CITY — No. 2 Oklahoma beat No. 7 Tennessee in walk-off fashion, 4-3, in the opening round of the Women's College World Series. The Lady Vols started off hot, leading 2-0 after Gabby Leach scored on a passed ball and Sophia Nugent's sac fly.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Lady Volunteers are set to take on the four-time defending national champions, Oklahoma, in the first round of the Women’s College World Series.

The Lady Vols Softball team looked poised to pull off a first round upset in the College Softball World Series. Playing in front of their home crowd in Oklahoma City, the Sooners were one out away from defeat when Ella Parker hit a walk off, three run homerun to stun the Lady Vols by a score of 4-3.

With a dominant defensive showing, the Lady Vols have advanced to the Women's College World Series with a 1-0 win over Nebraska.

No. 7 seed Tennessee (45-15) defeated Nebraska (43-15), 1-0, in game No. 3 of the Knoxville Super Regional of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. With the victory, the Lady Vols earned their ninth trip to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Nebraska (43-13) defeated No. 7 seed Tennessee (43-15), 5-2, Friday in game No. 1 in the Knoxville Super Regional of the 2025 NCAA Tournament at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. The Cornhuskers led the best-of-three series, 1-0. Game No. 3 will be played Saturday. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. EDT and ESPN will televise the contest.

The Lady Vols own a 96-49 record all-time in the NCAA Tournament. At the WCWS, they are 17-16 entering the weekend. In the program’s last trip to OKC, it went 2-2 with wins over Alabama and Oklahoma State. Its two defeats came against Oklahoma and Florida State.
