Tuskegee University is hiring eight police officers for round-the-clock patrols of the campus following the early Sunday morning mass shooting that resulted in one death and injuries to 16 others, the university’s president announced Thursday.

La’Tavion Johnson was a young man who lived for his family and friends. Only 18 years old, he was already set to begin a career next week with the Alabama Department of Transportation. That dream was stopped short in Sunday’s early morning hours when gunfire rang out at Tuskegee University amid the homecoming festivities.
