HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — The Harris County Sheriff's Office investigated a reported bomb threat at a Walmart store in northwest Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. The store was later cleared.

Assault suspect Carlos Hernandez escaped from the hospital at about 5 p.m. Friday.

The federal lawsuit in Louisiana is the third to be filed in connection to Harris County Jail inmates who died after being outsourced to LaSalle Correctional Center, one of the privately owned facilities that receives millions of dollars from lucrative contracts with the county to house hundreds of its inmates.

The lawsuit alleges that Erik Carlson, 29, died on Jan. 25, 2025, after jail staff repeatedly ignored his pleas for medical treatment.

Authorities recovered images of evidence from the affair, including matching tattoos, an engagement ring, numerous phone calls, and life insurance activity.
