Deadly wildfires in the Los Angeles area have sent tens of thousands scrambling for safety and decimated neighborhoods. Wildfire smoke has spread miles from the major blazes as fire crews and the National Guard work to control them.

More than 100,000 people and businesses remain without power Thursday as wildfires continue to rage across Southern California. As of about 1:16 p.m. ET, nearly 108,000 outages had been reported, according to the USA TODAY power outage tracker.

Major fires across Los Angeles this week have killed at least five people, forced 180,000 to flee their homes, and destroyed thousands of structures.

Five people are reportedly dead, and four firemen are injured as wildfires in Southern California continue to burn and devastate the area.

LOS ANGELES − As multiple wildfires continue to burn through Southern California, evacuation orders remain in place throughout the region through at least Thursday. Authorities continue to investigating the causes of three wildfires that began burning in Southern California on Tuesday and two fires that sparked north of Los Angeles and in Hollywood on Wednesday.
