The curb weight of the seventh-generation BMW M5 has been a topic of debate since its debut last summer. At 5,390 pounds for the sedan and 5,530 pounds for the wagon, the new G90 M5 is significantly heavier than its predecessor.

BMW only just launched a new M5. The latest iteration of the long-running sports sedan debuted back in 2024, but that hasn't stopped BMW from continuing to work on the M5. In fact, the Bavarian brand has already begun working on the next iteration of the M5, complete with new styling.

The new M5 has let itself go compared to its predecessor, but some would argue it was a necessary evil. There's still a big V-8 engine under the hood, only this time, it's supplemented by an electric motor built into the gearbox.

Facelift models don’t usually feature wholesale changes to the bodywork, but BMW is planning to buck this trend with its 5-series and M5 overhaul. At the front the headlights and front grilles look very similar to the Neue Klasse saloon concept.

The 2025 BMW M5 debuted less than a year ago, with the reveal taking place at the end of June 2024. Despite this, BMW is already preparing a facelift for its first hybridized M5, and we're not complaining. While its weight was one of the key elements singled out by many for criticism, the styling was also perceived by some as less than stellar.

Since the current G60-generation 5 Series (G90 for the M5) went on sale in late 2023, BMW has been teasing its upcoming Neue Klasse series, which will kick off later this year with a production version of the Vision Neue Klasse X concept and in essence an iX3-replacement.

BMW is already preparing to facelift its M5 super sedan, with a restyled example spotted testing in camouflage.
