A record crowd for a regular-season Major League Baseball game got to see all the pomp and pageantry with the MLB Speedway Classic before the rain washed out the game itself in the bottom of the first inning.

The Major League Baseball Speedway Classic came to an anti-climatic end Saturday evening after heavy rain turned the field into mush and forced the Cincinnati Reds versus Atlanta Braves game to be suspended after one inning. But according to different fan accounts on social media, the event was a giant mess even without the rain.

Among other items of note beyond the basics, the Braves have "called up" Hurston Waldrep to fill a temporary extra roster spot — it's possible the right-hander, taken in the first round of the 2023 draft and ranked by MLB.com as Atlanta's No. 4 prospect, will get a chance to pitch.
